Hannah and Johnny’s September wedding was a Tennessee DREAM. Since I typically photograph Catholic weddings here in Nashville and the Southeast (so, church weddings), outdoor weddings are always a fun creative challenge. And this one? This Tennessee Editorial Farmhouse Wedding is what styled shoots try to look like, but real life. Hannah and her family put so much intention into the design of this wedding and it was equal parts rustic, editorial, glamorous and relaxed.
Getting Ready
H and J tied the knot on Hannah’s grandmother’s historic farmhouse property in Pulaski, TN for their Tennessee Editorial Farmhouse Wedding.
They got ready at the house surrounded by all the things a bride could dream of: loving family, comforting spaces, and beautiful décor.

After visiting the horses and getting her dress on, Hannah, her mom, and I moved to a backroom for bridal portraits. Hannah sent me a Pinterest mood board during our planning process that was full of moody, colorful, film-inspired nostalgic photography. I styled their wedding photography around those themes.

Then we all moved to a different part of the property for the lovely ceremony. The ladies hid away in a large tent while I did some portraits with the guys. And what a great group! I am continuously grateful for the gentlemen I get to work with.

Ceremony
Hannah’s family set up a beautiful ceremony space full of vintage decorations that all seemed like heirlooms. They tied in the themes of family and love and romance that were woven throughout the day.

Portraits
Family portraits. Bridal Party portraits. Then we moved back to that beautiful backroom for couple’s portraits of J and H. This was a fun challenge because other than the beautiful window illuminating the small room, it was dark. I got to experiment with different positionings and flash settings which gave them a really fun variety of portraits in their final album. I did a little bit of everything I love: romantic cinematic style and flashy editorial fun portraits.

Reception
Then, we partied! They had large tents set up outside the farmhouse and everybody ate, drank, and danced the night away.

I LOVED how they incorporated a cake pull: a southern wedding tradition. Charms with ribbons attached are baked into the wedding cake, and the bridal party takes turns pulling out a charm to reveal their fortune. It was GREAT fun.

If there are any questions about using a home, heirlooms, and elements that tell your family’s story throughout the wedding day, the answer is a resounding yes. How beautiful it is to include elements that tell the stories of all those who came before you. This Tennessee Editorial Farmhouse Wedding is a perfect example.
